Cup and tray set
My tray set is used for chips and salsa. It was designed for this use by creating a plate with a hole in it. In the hole the cup can go in so you can carry them around together. This allows for you to carry salsa or dip around with the chips. I came up with the idea because I wanted a plate that could hold the cup inside of it. To begin with I rolled two slabs of clay and found the molds I wanted to use. Then after the plate dried I cut a square into the plate that was perfect size for the bottom of the cup. Then once they were fired once I clear glazed the cup and parts of the tray to make them match.

Mosaic
I designed my piece like I did because I wanted to make a bird and thought a bald eagle would look good. I cut it apart to make it more tiled. The most difficult part was putting all the pieces in the correct place every single time they needed to be arranged, or the grout. I thought the idea was a good one but next time I create the piece I would not make so many pieces and spend more time on the grout.
Pit Fire
My piece started out as a pinch pot bowl. Then I started layering rings of clay to coil build my bowl. To finish it I made another pinch pot, cut out the bottom and scored and slipped them together.
Then we put different things around the outside to change the color.
The most difficult part was the coils and making them equal size. I like how my piece turned out. I don't have a picture of the green ware.

Paper Mache
Greek Pottery
This is a lebes Pot and the history of it is to use it for cooking and for sacrifices things.
Sgraffito is defined as a form of decoration made by scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting color, typically done in plaster or stucco on walls, or in slip on ceramics before firing.
Registers are layers of a piece of art that have a theme.
My piece
To start I made a big slab and made a circle. Then I set that on top of a cylinder and scored and slip it. Then I made the outside smooth and painted it black with a special paint. Once it dried some I carved out my scene which is just a wooded area with a old house and an arch. Then after it fired I glazed it white and it was fired again. I got inspired to make my piece from a picture of a wooded scene and old house example I saw online. I was successful making the house, but if I were to do this again, I would have done more work on the trees because they are to small and not textured enough.

Tripod Cup
To make a tripod cup you roll out a slab of clay which is a long flat piece of clay that has a uniform thickness. Then you cut your slab to size that you want your cup. After that you let it harden a bit and then start to put the slab into a circular shape. Once you have scored and slipped the sides you put your fingers in a triangle and push in on the bottom of the cup. After that you add the handle, which you can do a few ways. The way I did was I rolled out another slab and cut out a long thin piece. Then I set the shape that I wanted and let it dry for a bit. After that I scored and slipped it on. Once it went through the first firing I added glaze and fired it again. If I were to do this again I would not wait as long to make the feet because my clay was a little to dry and it cracked some. Overall though my mug was successful.
Inspired artist
James Brunt is a very inspiring artist to me. He works with materials from nature. He studied at Byam Shaw school of arts in London and now works from Yorkshire. He uses the materials in a repeating often circular shape in patterns. I think a big reason why I like his work is because he uses natural materials in his work, takes a picture, and then lets the material return to the Earth. I am also very drawn to nature and in many of my pieces have repeating shapes. It inspires me because he is not taking anything or leaving anything in nature, he just moves objects, which creates no foot print and leaves nothing behind. 3 textures
Our first task was to make 3 different textures. A rock, a cloud, and fur. The hardest one was by far the cloud. With the rock I took out some clay and used a brush to add texture. The fur I made long strips of clay then layered them and brushed it with wire brush again. The cloud was hard though. All I did was make bumps in the cloud.
